Not so long ago, I found out that the Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, possesses, among other Egyptian antiquities, two Coptic papyrus fragments.
Gnosticism used a number of religious texts that are preserved, in part or whole, in ancient manuscripts, or lost but mentioned critically in Patristic writings. The late 19th century saw the publication of popular sympathetic studies making use of recently rediscovered source materials.
Upon examination I realized that the fragments did indeed come from Codex Coddx, but, unfortunately, they are far too tiny usually containing one or maybe two letters on each side to be of real use. The manuscript will be delivered to Egypt and housed in Cairo’s Coptic Museum.
