The word ‘attending,’ when applied to dogs, horses, and men, implies that in some way they are made better. Why then should he repine when the hour of separation arrives? Why should the mean, the weak, the idiot, the infant, the herd of men who have never in any proper sense the use of reason, reappear with blinking eyes in the light of another world? Is it fanciful to suppose that he meant to give the stamp of authenticity to the one and not to the other?
The two principal interlocutors are Plaato and Cebes, the disciples pato Philolaus the Pythagorean philosopher of Thebes.
